Covert Optical Coding System

The patented DNA Matrix SmartMark process uses invisible markers that contain sufficient information to uniquely identify a product. It employs specific formulations of rare light-emitting chemicals that produce a complex spectral signature when excited by light of a specific colour and intensity.
The spectral signature varies according to the exact chemical composition of the taggant, and new taggants (and thus new spectral signatures) can be custom developed and tested for each new application.
The light emitting chemicals are stable, non toxic and may be readily incorporated into printing inks, dies, plastics, threads and other items as part of the normal printing or manufacturing process.

Scanner-Decoders

Microprocessor-controlled scanner-decoders are used to read the marker and instantly analyze the spectral signature in the field and when required, in DNA Technologies' laboratories. These low cost, battery powered hand held scanners allow field investigators to determine the authenticity of merchandise instantly. This enables them to carry out enforcement procedures immediately with confidence.
This instant verification overcomes the past requirements to send product back for factory or technical specialist authentication - a time consuming and costly process. The counterfeiters may well have effected market share or have moved on during this sometimes lengthy process.
